Designed and handmade by Issy in London, our exclusive collection of Ottoman Coffee Tables & Stools are made with vintage Turkish Kilim, Uzbekistan Silk Velvet Ikat, and rich deep pile velvet.
Let us take you on a journey through the old roads of nomadic villages in Turkey, where kilim weaving is a living tradition that beautifully, for centuries, depicts the lives of people in this part of the world.
Hand-woven with love, each Kilim used for our ottomans has been sourced by Issy and represents a narrative, a piece of time forever locked in each knot, symbolizing a rich cultural heritage that has been kept from oblivion. Each Kilim Ottoman footstool coffee table is a one-off design.
The road takes us further to the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan, home of beautiful ikat silk. Ikat refers to the hundred years old dyeing technique used to create the design of a particular image on a piece of fabric. It is a process in which bundles of yarn are tightly wrapped and dyed as many times as necessary to create the desired pattern or a shade.
This unique craft requires delicate skills that are reflected in the endurance and calmness of a weaver, yet, as a true counterpart to the life it represents, the uniqueness of the ikat technique is represented through vaguely defined edges of images and in the impossibility of creating an absolutely accurate motif. Our beautiful Ikat Velvet ottoman stool is an exclusive creation by Issy and offers the chance to have a piece of this stunning artwork in your home.
Home in the UK, Issy searched for a luxuriously rich fabric for her collection of Velvet footstools and ottomans. She chose this stunning deep pile Designers Guild velvet as the perfect fabric choice.
