December's Garden

December can be a quiet time in the garden, with jobs piling up for Spring, but it’s a good time to plant bare root roses (so long as the ground isn’t frozen) allowing you to dream of next summer. There is little prettier than a pale yellow rambling rose by a front door, or heavy-headed shrub roses in your borders. I love the selection at David Austin and Peter Beales and have squeezed as many as I can in to my garden at home. Some rose varieties such as Rosa glauca and Rosa moyesii ‘Geranium’ have wonderful rose hips, I’m picking these now to adorn wreaths and garlands in the house.
